APLICACIONES DE IGBT

Hoy en día,  el Transistor bipolar de puerta aislada (IGBT), es ampliamente utilizado en los sectores médicos, industriales, financieros, el transporte, la generación de energía renovable de los consumidores y aviones, a nivel mundial. Como resultado, millones de personas de todo el mundo están disfrutando de una mayor comodidad, conveniencia y calidad de vida.

Los IGBT son conocidos por su eficiencia y características de conmutación rápida.  Estas cualidades hacen que los IGBT se  utilicen en aplicaciones en  donde se ahorra energía permitiendo  proteger el medio ambiente.  Los IGBTs se utilizan en casi todos los sectores de nuestra economía, porque no hay ningún producto específico alternativo disponible en el mercado que ofrezca las mismas ventajas que IGBT.

En los últimos 20 años, la influencia acumulativa de la capacidad avanzada de IGBT se ha fortificado en sus aplicaciones,  brindando como valor agregado un ahorro de $ 2,7 billones de dólares para los consumidores Estadounidenses y            $ 15.8 billones de dólares para los consumidores a nivel mundial. Por otro lado, la eficiencia desarrollada generada por aplicaciones IGBT con motor ha promovido una disminución acumulada de las emisiones de dióxido de carbono de 35 billones de libras en los Estados Unidos y 78 billones de libras en todo el mundo durante los últimos 20 años. Por lo tanto,  IGBT ya ha tenido un impacto clave para hacer una sociedad mundial sostenible con un nivel de vida avanzado, junto con la mitigación del impacto ambiental.

Después de su creación en la década de 1980, las aplicaciones de los IGBT se  han ido extendiendo incesantemente, ya que han tenido un gran impacto en: el sector del transporte, el sector de consumo, sector de la automatización, sector industrial, sector médico, el sector aeroespacial, sector marítimo, sector de la defensa;  sector financiero, la transmisión de energía, el sector de la distribución, el sector de generación de energía renovable y muchos otros sectores de la economía.

¿Qué pasaría si todos los IGBTs  fueran removidos de las aplicaciones a las que sirven hoy ¿"La respuesta es bastante reveladora:

Nuestro nuevo sistema  de energía solar y las fuentes de energía renovable a base de viento no serían capaces de suministrar energía a la red debido a que los inversores podrían dejar de funcionar. Nuestros automóviles  de  energía con gasolina podrían dejar de funcionar debido a la función de los sistemas de encendido electrónico. Nuestros autos eléctricos e híbridos eléctricos dejarían de funcionar debido a que los inversores utilizados para entregar energía de las baterías a los motores no  podrían funcionar. Nuestros sistemas eléctricos de transporte masivo llegarían a un punto muerto debido a que los inversores se alimentan  de la fuente de energía de la red y los motores dejarían de funcionar. Nuestros sistemas de aire acondicionado en los hogares y oficinas dejarían de funcionar debido a que los inversores utilizados para suministrar energía a la compañía suministradora de las bombas de calor y compresores dejarían de funcionar. Nuestros refrigeradores y máquinas expendedoras no podrían ser capaces de  hacer la entrega y el almacenamiento de productos perecederos. Nuestras fábricas llegarían a un punto muerto debido a que los controles numéricos utilizan robots para ejecutar la labor y estos podrían dejar de funcionar. Nuestras nuevas bombillas fluorescentes compactas de bajo consumo dejarían de funcionar limitando nuestras actividades diarias. Nuestros desfibriladores portátiles recientemente desplegados en los vehículos de emergencia, aviones y  edificios de oficinas ya no serían de utilidad,  poniendo a más de 100.000 personas en el riesgo de muerte por insuficiencia cardiaca.

En resumen, la calidad de vida en nuestra sociedad sería grandemente deteriorada sin el uso de los IGBTs porque son una bendición de la ciencia moderna.

IGBT in Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles

All hybrid-electric and electric cars that have been introduced into the market so far have relied up on IGBT-based motor drives. In new powertrain generations such as EVs and HEVs, IGBTs play the key role in order to drive the electric motor or store the energy. IGBTs run at very high frequencies and under high power which makes them vulnerable to thermal problems. After all we can say, the availableness of IGBTs has been diametrical to the advancement of the hybrid vehicles and to the expansion of the charging substructure for the electric vehicles. IGBTs will continue playing a very important part in the availability of cost deducting technology for the entire hybrid and electric vehicle business.

Applications of IGBT

Now-a-days the IGBT (Insulated Gate BipolarTransistor) is extensively applied in the transportation, renewable power generation, consumer, aircraft, medical, industrial and financial sectors all worldwide. As a result, billions of people from around the globe are enjoying enhanced comfort, convenience, and quality of life. IGBTs are known for their fantastic efficiency and speedy switching characteristics. These qualities make IGBTs very suitable for applications where saving energy and protecting the environment are very important. IGBTs are being used in almost all sectors of our economy because there isn’t any exact alternative available which can be used in place IGBT and can offer same advantages.

Our electric mass-transit systems would come to a standstill because the inverters used to deliver power from the power-grid to the motors would no longer function. Our air-conditioning systems in homes and offices would stop working because the inverters used to deliver power from the utility company to the heat-pumps and compressors would no longer function. Our refrigerators and vending machines would no longer function making the delivery and storage of perishable products impossible. Our factories would come to a grinding halt because the numerical controls use to run the robots would cease to function. Our new low-energy compact fluorescent bulbs would stop functioning limiting our activities to the daytime. Our portable defibrillators recently deployed in emergency vehicles, on-board airplanes, and in office buildings would no longer be operational putting over 100,000 people at the risk of death from cardiac failure.

In one statement, the quality of life in our society would be greatly deteriorated if the IGBT is no longer available. It’s a blessing of modern science.
